Nikkei slides as Canon, exporters decline

TOKYO, May 31 (Reuters) The Nikkei share average slid 1.25 percent on Wednesday, as shares of Canon Inc. and other exporters declined after concerns about a potential slowdown in U.S.

consumer spending battered Wall Street.

The Nikkei was down 213.39 points at 15,646.06 as of 0003 GMT.

The TOPIX index was down 1.30 percent at 1,591.84.
