NCC Cadets to Attempt Swargarohini Peak in Garhwal
New Delhi, May 31 (UNI) Defence Secretary Shekhar Dutt today flagged off a National Cadet Corps Boys Mountaineering Expedition to the 6,252-metre Swargarohini Peak in the Garhwal Himalayas.
This the first time that the NCC cadets will be attempting the technically-difficult peak which has a long route entailing traversing of numerous crevasses and water channels.
The expedition, led by Colonel SK Varni, comprises Major Vijay Kumar as Deputy Leader, Medical Officer Major CK Haldar and 20 NCC cadets selected from diffferent parts of the country. All participants are qualified in Advance and Basic mountaineering courses from various mountaineering institutions, an official spokesman here said.
The expedition will reach Base Camp on June 13 and attempt to scale the peak between June 14 and 16.
The expedition will also maintain the pristine beauty and ecological balance of the trekking route and Base Camp by observing an eco-friendly conduct and will bring back the maximum possible garbage from the mountain, the spokesman said.
The team is likely to return to the capital on June 28 next.
