Life in Indian village an eye-opener for American students

New Delhi, May 31 (UNI) It was quite an eye-opener for seven students from the United States to experience life first hand in rural India, especially the struggle for basic amenities like water and electricity which, back home, they had always taken for granted.

"We are still getting used to the heat, but somehow we all survived," Mr Aderemi Abioye or 'Remi' as he is popularly called, said.

He is the leader of a group of students from Michigan University to study the changing face of rural India as a part of a Students Of the World (SOW) organisation initiative.

Describing their experiences in the villages as "difficult but interesting", the students said they have learnt to appreciate their life back home.

"After seeing how much the villagers struggle for clean water, better sanitary conditions and electricity, I feel so blessed," Ms Allision Stewart said. Ms Chelsea, concurring with her colleague's view said, "in the US these things have kind of become our second habit." These students worked closely with the Sehgal Foundation, spending almost three weeks at villages in Mewat and Kurukshetra districts studying the living conditions of the people and documenting
