Journos burn effigy of MLA for threatening scribe

Hyderabad, May 31 (UNI) Several journalists of twin cities staged a dharna and burnt an effigy of Malakpet legislator Malreddy Rangareddy for threatening Andhra Jyothi city bureau chief K Suresh for publishing a news relating to MLA at Basheerbagh circle today.

The journalists, under the banner of Hyderabad Union of Journalists (HUJ), also raised slogans against the undemocratic behaviour of the MLA, who threatened Mr Suresh of dire consequences on May 27.

For the last three days, scribes of the twin cities held protest meetings in various parts of the city, demanding that the ruling Congress take action against the MLA, and seeking an apology from him.

A HUJ delegation, led by its President M S Hashmi, submitted a memorandum to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker seeking stringent action against the MLA.

Earlier, the MLA telephoned Mr Suresh and threatened him for publishing a news item pertaining to DDRC proceedings in which he spoke on May 27.

Mr Suresh lodged a complaint with the Punjagutta police against the MLA.
