Japan's Morigami shocked after career-best win

PARIS, May 31 (Reuters) Shock as well as happiness swept Japan's Akiko Morigami after she claimed the biggest win of her career at the French Open today.

The 69th-ranked baseliner ousted third seed Nadia Petrova for the loss of just four games to reach the second round.

''I was just kind of shocked that I beat Nadia because I played against her three or four times and I (had only) won once, but by retirement,'' she told reporters after the 6-2 6-2 upset.

''(That) was not really my win... Today was like, I actually beat her. I was just really shocked and I was really happy,'' said the Tokyo-based 26-year-old.

''I really could not think about anything else. I know maybe Nadia was a little bit injured, but I tried to focus on my game. I think it worked pretty well.'' Petrova told a news conference she was hindered by an injury to her left leg sustained in practice.

''I was really hoping my leg would get better but unfortunately I started to feel it again in the beginning of the first set,'' she said.

''I really felt like my leg was just not responding and I couldn't move it as fast as I could move my right leg. That's why I was slow on the court and it was bothering me a bit in my head as well because I was thinking about it.'' Reuters VJ VP0602
