SETLabs generates 82 invention disclosures
Bangalore, May 31 : The Software Engineering and Technology Labs (SETLabs), which spearheads IT major Infosys' commitment to innovation and Intellectual Property (IP) development, has generated over 82 invention disclosures and filed over 20 patents in 2005-06.
Nearly 300 researchers were engaged in creating methodologies, frameworks, tools and service platforms that address clients' business problems, Infosys said in a release here today.
The company announced that product engineering services (PES) contributed ten per cent to the total revenues in 2005-06 and employed approximately 5,000 people.
Investment in Research and Development was 1.2 per cent of the total revenues. The PES portfolio included work across sectors such as hi-tech, telecommunications, automotive, aerospace, industrial products, heavy machinery and consumer appliances, the release said.
The thrust areas for Infosys went beyond these services to encompass the entire cycle of business model competitiveness for clients and itself through technology and business innovation, the release said.
Company Chief Operating Officer Kris Gopalakrishnan said that as Infosys penetrated every entry point in the product lifecycle, it experienced a close working proximity with various stakeholders in the value chain. ''Infosys works with the creators and end-users of technology...Our engagement with the creators of technology, usually product engineering companies, helps us gain early visibility into technology and aids us in co-creating new products and services in their industries''. Consequently, Infosys enjoyed better understanding of the needs of ultimate end-users of technology, he added.
