Don't rush Vaughan's return, advise Yorkshire
London, May 31 (UNI) Despite a successful return to action in the domestic circuit, Michael Vaughan's county club Yorkshire is not entirely convinced about the regular captain's fitness and has advised England not to rush him back to the team for the ODI series against Sri Lanka.
''I think it will be a little bit too early,'' Yorkshire's chief executive Stuart Regan was quoted by the Daily Telegraph here.
''He's got to continue to put work into the knee and test it in different circumstances. He has obviously been doing some running on the field in straight lines, but when you have got a knee injury it's twisting and turning that causes aggravation,'' he added.
Vaughan will be in action today as he leads Yorkshire against Hampshire in the county championship, which will see him come face to face with Australian spin wizard Shane Warne.
Mr Regan said he wants Vaughan to play for England as soon as possible but not at the expense of his fitness. He said the England captain should wait until the next Test series before returning to international cricket.
''Realistically it's only going to be appropriate for him to come back into the England team when the knee is fully fit. Whether that is during the one-dayers is down to medical opinion, but personally I would say wait until the next Test series,'' he said.
Vaughan, who effected a run out during the C&G Trophy match against Scotland yesterday, did not show any signs of discomfort in the knee but Mr Regan said the right-hander was nervous at the start of the game.
''Michael came through very well but obviously a little bit nervous after being out for so long. He fielded very impressively, scoring a direct hit. Then, when he came in to bat, he sprayed a few balls around including one very nice six,'' he said praising Vaughan's performance in the match.
