Doctors end strike, finally; to continue protests
New Delhi, May 31 (UNI) Another warning from the Supreme Court and hours of consultations later, medicos protesting the 27 per cent OBC quota in centres of higher education buckled reluctantly tonight, with resident doctors promising to return to work at five premier hospitals of the capital.
Medical services at the AIIMS, Safdarjang Hospital, Maulana Azad Medical College, Lady Hardinge Medical College and the Vardhman Mahavir Medical College would normalise as resident doctors return to work from 0800 hrs tomorrow, the striking doctors said.
''We are resuming duties from 0800 hrs tomorrow in deference to the Supreme Court's directive and keeping the interest of patients in mind. Our protests and the movement against the government's proposal will, however, continue,'' Dr Subroto Mandal, Vice-President of the Resident Doctors' Association of AIIMS, nerve centre of the agitation, told UNI.
The students and doctors would continue the agitation without disrupting the delivery of health services, Jatin Khosla of the Youth for Equality, the group spearheading the agitation, said.
