Ancient mutt institutes award, honours eminent litterateur
Bangalore, May 31 (UNI) Renowned scholar Shivakumaraswamy has been chosen for the 'Suvarnashree' award, instituted by the Vibhuthipur Mutt, an ancient Veerashaiva religious mutt, from this year to honour eminent personalities in various fields.
Talking to reporters here today, Mutt Head Mahanthalinga Shivacharya Swamiji said Mr Shivakumaraswamy was selected for his significant contribution to the field of literature. He had penned over 20 titles in English, Sanskrit and Kannada languages, encompassing various subjects, besides publishing over 150 research articles in various periodicals and newspapers.
He said the Mutt had instituted the 'Suvarnashree' award from this year to honour those contributing their might to the field of education and culture. The award, carrying a cash prize of Rs 10,000, a citation and a memento, would be presented to its first recipient, Mr Shivakumaraswamy, in the city on June nine.
The pontiff said the Vibhuthipur Mutt, one of the prominent 64 mutts situated in the city, was involved in various social service activities.
