Zaheer, Mongia fail as their teams suffer defeat in C

London, May 30 (UNI) On a day of forgettable outings, Team India discards Zaheer Khan and Dinesh Mongia failed to shine as their respective teams went down in their C&G Trophy matches.

Dinesh Mongia could not make mark as Durham beat Leicestershire by three wickets in the rain-interrupted C&G Trophy match at Riverside under the Duckworth Lewis system.

Put into bat, Leicestershire could score only 151 for six from 39 overs in a rain-interrupted match. Mongia's contribution with the bat was only two as he stepped out to hit Gareth Breese and was stumped after a four-ball stay in the middle.

John Maunders (31) and Paul Nixon (34 not out of 24 balls) propped up the Leicestershire innings and Steve Harmison took one for 32 in his eight overs.

Set a Duckworth-Lewis calculated target of 163 from 39 overs, Durham lost seven wickets to score 164 in 36.4 overs to win the match.

It was Callum Thorp's unbeaten 26 off 13 balls that led Durham to a three-wicket win with 14 balls to spare. Phil Mustard was not out on 31 from 21 balls with two boundaries and a six.

Mongia, with his gentle left-arm spin, claimed two wickets conceding 19 runs in his two overs but it proved too late and too little.

Zaheer Khan's Worcestershire had similar fate in another C&G trophy match as Derbyshire beat them by seven wickets under the D/L method.

Opting to bat first, Worcestershire reached 204 for five in 42.2 overs with Vikram Solanki (53) and Stephen Moore (68) sharing a 108-run stand.

Chasing a revised target of 189 in 32 overs, Derbyshire reached the score in 31.1 overs losing three batsmen to win the match by seven wickets.

Michael Di Venuto (92) shared an unbroken 94 in 16 overs with Chris Taylor (49) to see them home with five balls to spare after being set a revised 189 in 32 overs.

Zaheer Khan went wicketless in the match and conceded 37 runs in his six overs.
