Session court rejects anticipatory bail plea of Prakash J Jaju

Mumbai, May 30 (UNI) A session court here today rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra's former secretary Prakash J Jaju.

The plea was rejected on the grounds of his prima facie involvement in a case registered by Priyanka's family alleging that the accused sent them threatening calls and harassed their daughter.

Applicant's counsel sought further adjournment of the matter and produced a medical certificate that applicant is suffering from mental illness and is under treatment at his village in Mahu in Indore.

Yesterday, he had moved an application that the applicant is under threat from the underworld at the behest of Priyanaka hence was compelled to leave Mumbai.

Yesterday, while adjourning the matter for today, the court directed the applicant's counsel that Jaju be present before the court.

In the meantime, public prosecutor argued that both his statements contradicted each other and therefore he pressed for the decision. The court rejected his bail plea in view of the FIR and other details provided by the investigating officers of his involvement in this case.

Jaju had filed an ABA plea before the sessions court on May 24 fearing arrest on a complaint lodged by Priyanka's father for allegedly threatening them.

A complaint has been lodged against Jaju with the Oshiwara Police on May 22 by Priyanka's father Ashok Chopra who has accused the former of issuing threatening calls to the Chopra family and sending vulgar messages to his daughter Priyanka.

Jaju in his anticipatory bail application, said Priyanka Chopra had failed to pay his dues and he had filed a private complaint at the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate court in 2004 in this regard. However, process on the said complaint has been stayed after Priyanka approached the Bombay High Court for quashing the process against her.

Jaju claimed that Priyanka owed him over Rs 69 lakh as fees and royalty for several movies she had signed during his tenure as her secretary and the services he provided to her during the last four years since February 2001.

He prayed in his application that the FIR has been registered against him maliciously and only to take revenge and humiliate him.
