Red alert in Arunachal following outbreak of malaria in Asom

Itanagar, May 30 (UNI) The Arunachal Pradesh government has sounded a red alert over the possible outbreak of malaria in the state, following deaths in neighbouring Asom by the killer disease.

Though the outbreak of the disease was not reported from any part of the state, the state health department is taking all possible measures to combat it.

State epidemiologist Dr Lobsang Jampa stated that malaria had not been reported from any part of the state, particularly Papum Pare district bordering North Lakhimpur district in Asom, where around 300 cases of the disease was reported.

Mr Jampa informed that many cases of fever were being reported from various parts of the state and patients were being brought to General hospital here on a daily basis.

Talking of preventive measures, Dr Jampa informed that the health department was geared to meet any situation.

All the district medical officers have been appraised of the situation in view of the monsoon season. He appealed to the people to cooperate with the department and report any cases of fever to their nearest hospital immediately. He also advised people to prevent water stagnation and water logging.

Meanwhile, National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme Joint Director Dr R.S.Sharma has advocated continued vigilance, surveillance and rapid response with sustained supply of drugs to tackle the scourge of malaria in Arunachal.
