Process to appoint VCs to four Gujarat farm varsities begins
Palanpur, Gujarat, May 30 (UNI) The process of appointment of vice-chancellors to four agricultural universities in the state has begun with the seeting up of a four-member search committee under provisions of the Gujarat Agriculture Univesities Act, 2004.
The four farm varsities were carved out of the Gujarat Agriculture University and the power to appoint the VCs was vested upon the State Government.
The search committee will suggest names to the Governor who will select one for each of the four varsities.
The search committee comprises a nominee of the four VCs, a nominee of the Governor, a nominee to be jointly proposed by Boards of Management and Academic Councils and a representative of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
Since the term of the current four VCs, appointed for a two-year term, expires tomorrow, the State Government has extended their term by three months till their successors are selected.
At present, the posts are held by Dr B S Chundawat at Sardar Krushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University, Dr R P S Ahalawat at Navsari Agricultural University, Prof M C Varshneya at Ananad Agricultural University and Dr B K Kikani at Junagadh Agricultural University.
