No need to worry about security at Russian embassy in Kabul:Lavrov

Moscow, May 30 (UNI) Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov today said there were no reasons to worry about security at the Russian embassy in Kabul.

''Order has been restored and security at the embassy increased.

There is no need to worry. No Russian citizens were injured,''he said at a briefing, referring to the violent anti-US protests in Kabul yesterday.

''I am sure that our Afghan friends will do everything possible to protect our embassy,'' the minister added, pointing out that security at the Russian embassy in Kabul had been stepped up.

''A repeat of similar clashes and riots provoked by various incidents is increasingly dangerous and could trigger an unstoppable chain reaction,'' he said.

Meanwhile, the Russian Ambassador to Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov has urged the Afghan Foreign Ministry to step up security at all Russian offices in Kabul.

He told Interfax news agency that his residence in the eastern Kabul had been damaged in the riots.

Demonstrators ''destroyed surveillance cameras and security guards' post outside the residence's building and smashed windows,'' the Russiabn Ambassador said.

''Their actions were not politically motivated. The embassy's building just happened to be along the demonstration's route,'' he noted.
