Mahe region of UT badly hit by southwest monsoon

Pondicherry, May 30 (UNI) The Mahe region of the Union Territory adjoining Kerala was severaly hit by the southwest monsoon.

According to reports reaching the headquarters here, 42 houses were damaged in the incessant rain which was accompanied by strong winds.

Twenty-one houses at Palloor, 18 at Chalakkara two at Pandakkal and one at Mahe, were damaged when uprooted trees fell over them.

No loss of life was reported from the region, reports said.

The official machinery had been geared up to provide relief to the affected.
