K'tala Police Housing Corp bags Golden Peacock award

Bangalore, May 30 (UNI) The Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation has bagged the Golden Peacock Eco-Innovation award for 2006 for its consistent concern for the environment.

A jury, headed by former Chief Justice of India Mr Justice P N Bhagwati, selected the Corporation for the honour. The award would be presented by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh to Corporation Chairman and Managing Director Dr D V Guruprasad on June nine, a Corporation release here said today.

The award, instituted by the World Environment Foundation, was aimed at creating a sense of competitiveness in improving environment management.

The Corporation had built the first green building in the Government sector in the country at Gulbarga. Besides, the Corporation does not use wood in buildings it constructs and was a pioneer in rain water harvesting and use of solar energy in its projects, the release said.
