K'taka men, Kerala eves lift national youth volleyball trophy

Bangalore, May 30 (UNI) Hosts Karnataka and Kerala today lifted the 10th National Youth Volleyball championship in the men's and women's category respectively.

While the hosts defeated Kerala 25-23, 25-15, 25-17, it was a sweet revenge for Kerala eves, who thrashed Karnataka 25-17, 25-18, 25-17 in straight sets. The winners collected Rs 1.25 lakh and the runners up had to be content with Rs 75,000.

Karnataka Captain Ganesh Rai, Hemanth, Mahesh displayed skill in blocking and smashing, while Libro Mohammed Sameer was at his best in passing the ball.

The Kerala lads, who gave a tough fight in the first set, failed to bounce back and committed many mistakes.

It was an one-sided affair in the distaff section as the host lasses failed on all fronts. For the winners, Dhanva and Joemol proved their mettle in smashing and Prince Joseph was good at service.

Earlier, in the match played for the third place, Haryana men defeated Uttar Pradesh 25-12, 25-19, 25-18 and West Bengal women trounced Tamil Nadu 25-20, 25-20 and 25-20.
