Kashmiri engineer setenced to three-year rigorous imprisonment
Srinagar, May 30 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir court of special judge anti-corruption today sentenced an executive engineer to three-year rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs five lakh besides confiscating his Rs 6.92 lakh in a disproportionate assets case.
The court pronounced the order in presence of accused Ghulam Ali, a resident of Rawalpora Housing colony, former executive engineer, Power Development Department (PDD), Srinagar, in a disproportionate assets case.
The accused was immediately taken into custody and sent to central jail here.
The court in its order held that the accused was in possession of disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 15.87 lakh which were accumulated by him during the course of his service where he held an official position and indulged in corrupt practices.
The State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) after conducting a preliminary inquiry had registered an FIR against the accused when it was prima facie established that former executive engineer in the transmission division posted at Bemina in Srinagar is in possession of huge assets, in the shape of a palatial house at Rawalpora Srinagar and other immovable property at Anantnag and Srinagar bye-pass besides huge cash deposits in the banks within and outside the state.
