Index of six core industries shows 6.7 pc growth at 206.6

New Delhi, May 30 (UNI) The index of six core infrastructure industries registered a growth of 6.7 per cent at 206.6 in 2006 (provisional) compared to growth of 6 per cent in April 2005.

Petroleum Refinery production with weight of 2 per cent in industrial Production (IIP) registered a growth of 13.5 per cent in 2006 as against a negative growth of 7.7 per cent last year.

Crude petroleum production with weight of 4.17 per cent in IIP registered a negative growth of 1.9 per cent in 2006 as against negative growth of 0.4 last year.

Cement production with weight of 1.99 per cent in IIP showed a growth of 11.7 per cent this year compared to 9.9 per cent last year.

Electricity production with a weight of 10.17 per cent in IIP registered a growth of 5.6 per cent this year as compared to 3 per cent in 2005.

Coal production with a weight of 3.22 per cent in IIP registered a growth of 3.4 per cent in 2006 as compared to 8.2 per cent in 2005.

Steel production with weight of 5.13 in IIP registered growth of 8.6 per cent as against 16.9 per cent last year.

With the base year 1993/94 The six industries account for a total weight of 26.68 per cent in the Index of Industrial Production.
