New Delhi, May 30: After announcing the expansion of production capacity to double by 2007, Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) today declared its plans to expand its dealer network from 157 to 200 and service network to over 1,000 by this year.

''Apart from expansion of production capacity, HMIL plans to expand its dealer network, which will be increased from 157 to 200 this year. And with the company's greater focus on the quality of its after-sales service, HMIL's service network will be expanded to over 1,000 in 2006,'' a company statement released here said.

Earlier in the month, HMIL said that it would set up a second engine and transmission plant in Chennai in two years time, with an investment of about 600 million dollar. About 800 persons would be hired for its reseach and development programme to be performed at Hyderabad.

The process of increasing its production would touch overall capacity of 6,00,000 cars once the second assembly unit goes on stream by 2007.

The company is also launching a free car clinic programme, in over 298 dealer workshops across 190 cities and towns, to service over 1,00,000 of its customers from June 1.

The two-week initiative is targeted to offer free servicing of engine compartment, underbody, AC, body, interior, exterior and general checkup.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea, presently markets 31 variants of passenger cars in six segments.
