HC directs WB govt to ensure minimum healthcare for people

Kolkata, May 30 (UNI) A two-judge vacation bench of Calcutta High Court today directed the West Bengal government to ensure minimum healthcare for people at government-run hospitals.

The bench ,comprising Justice Kalyanjyoti Sengupta and Justice S P Mitra, held that the state government should take all necessary steps to offer medical traetment to the people in the government hospitals as the patients were from the weaker section of the society.

The court which passed the order on a petition of All India Minority Forum asked the government to file a report before the bench within June 9 when the matter will come up for further hearing.

The petitioner stated before the court that health services in the state-run hospitals were not available because of the striking medicos.

The petitioner prayed an order before the court to ensure that the patients coming from different villages of the district should get the best of treatment.
