Garud bags gold in 96 kg Greco Roman event

Pune, May 30 (UNI) Sandeep Garud of Maharashtra won the gold in the 96 kg group in the Greco Roman style event of the 26th junior national wrestling championship at Balewadi today.

The host state also saw Narsing Yadav winning his match in the 74 kg weight category in the Free Style event held simulteneously.

Garud, who trains under famed national coach and former Rustam-e-Hind Harishchandar Birajdar, got the better of Rakesh Hooda of Haryana on points to capture the gold.

Over 100 grapplers from 15 states are vying for honours in the three-day championship, which was formally inaugurated by Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar who is also the president of the Maharashtra State Wrestling Association (MSA) which is hosting the meet.

74 Kgs: Narsing Yadav (Mah) 1, Jaspal (Chd) 2, Dhirajpal Singh (UP) 3, Devinder Singh (Har) 4.
