G S Rajukhedi assumes charge as NCT Vice Chmn

New Delhi, May 30 (UNI) The newly appointed Vice-Chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, Gajendra Singh Rajukhedi took charge of his new responsibility here today.

Immediately after taking charge of his new responsibilities, Mr Rajukhedi called upon the officials of the Commission to work with high sense of commitment and dedication for the development of Scheduled Tribes, an official release said here.

He was appointed by the President APJ Abdul Kalam for a tenure of three years.

Mr Rajukhedi, a two term Lok Sabha MP, hails from village Rajukhedi of Tehsil Mannawar in district Dhar in Madhya Pradesh. He also served as the Member of the Standing Committee of Parliament for Ministry of Defence and Member of the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, set up under Article 338A of the Constitution, is vested with the duties inter-alia to investigate and monitor all matters relating to safeguards provided for the Scheduled Tribes under the Constitution or under any law for the time being in force or under any order of the Government and to evaluate the working of such safeguards and to inquire into specific complaints with respect to the deprivation of rights and safeguards of the Scheduled Tribes. While investigating into such matters, the Commission has all the powers of a Civil Court.
