Delhi to have three Foot Over-bridges with escalators

New Delhi, May 30 (UNI) In preparation for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, the national capital will soon have three Foot Over-bridges (FOBs) with escalators, a first for the country.

Delhi Public Works Department and Urban Development Minister A K Walia today laid foundation stone of three Foot Over-bridges (FOBs) with escalators at Ring Road-ISBT, ITO-Police Headquarters and Ring Road-Maharani Bagh.

Speaking on this occasion, Dr Walia said the unique initiative had been taken to provide comfort to pedestrians and described it a major step towards making the capital a world-class city.

Later, similar FOBs would also be constructed at all those places where pedestrians were facing difficulty while crossing the roads.

FOB at ISBT would be constructed with cement concrete and pile foundation. Main FOB with stairs would be constructed within six months while the ramp and escalator would take another three months. It would cost Rs 355 lakh.

Another FOB with escalator would come up at Police Headquarter ITO. This would have steel structure. The stairs, ramp and top of the FOB would be covered to enable it to be used during rainy season also. The FOB would be handicapped-friendly and would have a separate track for cyclists. Main FOBs with stairs would be constructed within six months while the ramp and escalator would take another three months. It would cost Rs 350 lakh.

The third FOB would be constructed at Maharani Bagh and would be akin to the one at ITO. Main FOB with stairs would be constructed within six months while the ramp and escalator would take another three months. It would cost Rs 325 lakh.

The escalators at three FOBs would have capacity to carry 9000 persons per hour.

Local MLAs P S Sawhney, Tajdar Babar and Tarwinder Singh Marwah were present on the occasion.
