Bhopal down plucky Mumbai to win West Zone Inter-State hockey title
Mumbai, May 30 (UNI) The old firm of Altaf-ur-Rehman and Sameer Dad, both former internationals from Indian Airlines, combined beautifully to guide Bhopal to a 3-2 win over plucky Mumbai in a well-contested final of the West Zone Inter State Hockey Championship 2006 played at the Mahindra Stadium today.
Striker Osaf-ur-Rehman and left-half Dhananjay Mahadik helped the visitors cross over with a 2-0 lead but Mumbai hit back through Hemant Gete in the 41st minute.
However, Farzan-ur-Rehman then converted via an indirect penalty corner to put Bhopal 3-1 ahead before Jayash Jadhav reduced the margin with ten minutes left for the final whistle.
Bhopal goalkeeper Ovais-Sher-Khan kept the hosts at bay with a string of saves through out the match.
In the hardlines match, Madhya Pradesh downed Chattisgarh 8-6 in a tie-breaker to clinch third place after the teams were level 3-3 at full-time.
