UP capital grapples with power crisis
Lucknow, May 29 (UNI) Even as the Uttar Pradesh power situation has improved a bit with Northern Grid becoming stable, the situation in the state capital is far from being satisfactory with many posh localities remaining sans power owing to technical snags.
While, the residents of trans-Gomti localities of Gomtinagar, Indiranagar, Niralanagar, Vikasnagar and Mahanagar are an aggrieved lot, at many places the residents spilled on the streets to protest against erratic power supply during the last few days.
Incidentally, the trans-Gomti areas comprise some VIPs colonies like Dalibagh and important government offices viz UP Director General of Police (DGP).
The dismal power supply added to the woes of the residents by affecting water supply to a great deal at many places.
There are reports of public display of anger by residents in Niralanagar, Vikasnagar, Triveninagar and Daliganj following frequent breakdowns.
People entered into scuffle with power employees at many power sub-stations of Lucknow during the last few days.
It is for the first time, since the power crisis hit UP about a month ago, that Lucknow had to face hardship.
The state capital has been among the few cities of UP to be exempted from power cuts, but the recent breakdowns had affected the normal life to a great extent.
When contacted, the Lucknow Electric Supply Authority (LESA) officials admitted to the poor state of power supply here. ''It is due to some maintenance problem and would take a couple of days for the restoration of normal supply.'' Overloading on transformers added by uprooting of electricity poles and wires during recent storm has made power authorities work overtime to maintain the supply, officials added.
