Somaiya urges State Govt to expedite Mithi River cleansing work
Mumbai, May 29 (UNI) Former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya has urged the State Government to expedite the cleansing of the Mithi River in view of the approaching Monsoon.
In a statement here today, Mr Somaiya urged that additional machinery and personnel be deployed to speed up the work.
He said the MMRDA, which was supposed to remove 7.63 lakh cubic meters of debris, silt and mud by May 31, has cleared only 3.5 lakh cubic metres of debris till date.
However, Mr Somaiya appreciated the work carried out by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) which has removed over 4.35 lakh cubic meters of debris.
