Six arrested for duping bank of Rs 17 lakh
Barasat, May 29 (UNI) Six people, including a woman promoter, were arrested here for allegedly cheating Allahabad Bank, Barasat branch, of Rs 17 lakh, police said today.
Sub-Divisional police officer, Barasat, S M H Mirza told reporters that police swung into action soon after getting complaint. He said police raided different areas of North 24-Parganas and rounded up six people last night. The arrests include a woman promoter, an income tax assistant and a police canteen assistant of Dum Dum airport (police station of Netaji Subhas airport).
According to him, three persons took loans of Rs 16.70 lakh from the bank after producing false documents between May 3 and 22. One of them was yet to be arrested.
The police officer said branch's Chief Manager Dinesh Kumar filed an FIR with the local polece station on May 23 last.
He said that involvement of bank staff in the fraud was not ruled out.
The accused would be produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate court today.
