Sena, NCP lose a seat each in Council polls from local bodies
Mumbai, May 29 (UNI) The Nationalist Congress Party and the Shiv Sena have lost one seat each in the Maharashtra Legislative Council polls from the local self government bodies constituencies, elections to which were held last Friday.
Shiv Sena lost the Raigad-Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg local bodies seat to NCP's Bhaskar Jadhav who is a former Sena leader from Chiplun in Raigad district. Jadhav polled 351 votes as against 273 amassed by Sena's Anant Tare who was the retiring MLC, while NCP rebel Umesh Shete got only one vote.
In Wardha-Chandrapur-Gadchiroli, Congress rebel Jaynuddin Zaveri, who contested as an independent, upset NCP's Ramdas Tadas who was the retiring MLC and was seeking re-election. Zaveri bogged 321 votes as against 231 of Tadas. BJP's Sameer Kunavar secured 164 votes while Sunil Namojwar (independent) got one vote.
Jagdish Gupta (BJP) retained his Amravati local bodies seat. He polled 209 votes defeating Congress candidate Milind Chimote who polled 187 votes.
Vasant Pawar of NCP retained the Nashik local bodies seat. He polled 301 votes as against 148 of Dashrath Patil (Shiv Sena).
Suresh Deshmukh of Congress retained his Parbhani-Hingoli local bodies seat polling 294 votes as against 108 of Anil Mudgalkar of BJP.
Dilip Deshmukh of Congress, who is brother of Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, retained the Beed-Latur-Osmanabad local bodies seat polling 654 votes as against 63 of Sanjay Nimbalkar (independent). Atul Bagal (independent) polled one vote.
Reacting to the results, State NCP president Arun Gujarathi charged the Congress of not helping NCP in the Wardha-Chandrapur-Gadchiroli seat while MPCC president Prabha Rau said NCP had not helped her party in Amravati.
