RSS gains through amendment in BJP Constitution

New Delhi, May 29 (UNI) In a move that paves way for induction of more RSS men into its organisational structure, the BJP National Executive today endorsed four crucial amendments to the party constitution providing for the creation of one or two posts of Secretaries to assist the General Secretary (Organisation) at the national level.

BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar told newspersons that these new appointments would be made by the National President. The General Secretary (Organisation) is considered a key post in the party and is normally given to the nominees of the RSS who will not contest elections and Mr Sanjay Joshi is the present incumbent.

The other amendment passed by the Executive stipulates that General Secretary (Organisation) can't be transferred or removed by the state President without consultations of the National President.

Similarly, at the district level, the General Secretary (Organisation) can't be transferred or removed without consultation with the state President.

This means these posts at the state and district levels get higher level of immunity from the rest of the office bearers of their respective districts.

Similarly the party also paves way for the appointment of Zonal Secretaries who will look after two or more states. However no limit on their numbers is specified.

Meanwhile, Chief Ministers and ministers of BJP-ruled states and in places where the party is part of the ruling coalition reported to the executive the about the administration and political aspects.

Those who reported the progress of their states were Mr Narendra Modi (Gujarat), Ms Vasundhara Raje (Rajastan), Mr Shivaraj Singh Chouhan, (Madhya Pradesh), Mr Raman Singh (Chhattisgarh), Mr Arjun Munda (Jharkhand) and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi.

Mr D H Shankaramurthy briefed about Karnataka developments and the party kept Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa out of the media glare.

Party representatives from Orissa, Nagaland also briefed about their respective states. The office bearers from states that recently went to polls -- Asom, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala-- and from Pondicherry, also briefed the executive about the poll performances in their states.

Tomorrow, the party will consider and pass a political resolution and the meeting will be addressed by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Leader of Opposition L K Advani.
