Punjab election petition: SC stays High Court order
New Delhi, May 29 (UNI) The Supreme Court today stayed the operation of the Punjab and Haryana high court judgment setting aside the election of an Independent MLA from Sher Pur assembly constituency in Punjab.
A vacation bench comprising Justices Arijit Pasayat and Lokeshwar Singh Panta also issued notice on the petition filed by Govind Singh who had won the last Assembly elections from his constituency.
The high court had set aside the election of the petitioner on an Election Petition filed by Harchand Kaur challenging the election on the ground of corrupt practices and booth capturing by the petitioner's supporters on polling day.
