Powergrid to set up 400KV sub-station in Ludhiana
Jammu, May 29 : The Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd will set up a 400/220 KV sub-station in Ludhiana to cope with the increasing demand of electricity by the industrial units in the district and surrounding areas.
About 37 acre of land in Laltokalan, Mansooran and Sehjad villages in Ludhiana is being acquired by the Punjab Government on behalf of the corporation, which shall be handed over to it during the current month.
Executive Director of Powergrid Dr N S Saxena said construction of the sub-station with 3x315 MVA transformation capacity will commence from June and it will be ready for commissioning alongwith associated transmission lines by August 2007.
The sub-station will draw power from a thermal power station in Eastern Uttar Pradesh and hydral power stations in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, a corporation statement said here.
Powergrid will also set up its 400 KV each transmission lines interconnections at Jalandhar and Malerkotla under Northern Region System Strengthening Scheme (NRSSS-III) with an investment of Rs 150 crore.
Subsequently, this sub-station will be interlinked with the 800MW Koldam Hydro Eletric Power Project, being constructed by National Thermal Power Corporation in Himachal Pradesh.
Punjab State Electricity Board will draw power from this sub-station through eight 220 KV transmission lines.
Dr Saxena said that in future this sub-station will also be connected to 400/220 KV Patiala sub-station through Double Circuit Transmission line, to transfer the power generated from 412 MV Rampur Hydro Electric Project in Himachal Pradesh.
Dr Saxena informed that the construction of the 400 KV transmission line between Ludhiana and Jalandhar, which would be connected to Chamera Hydro Generation Complex in Himachal, has also been started. It will also be connected to the Dadri Thermal Generation Complex in Uttar Pradesh.
He said the length of the line is 82 Kms with about 210 towers, of which casting of 65 foundations and erection of 29 towers has already been done. Casting of 20 foundations and erection of one tower out of the 36 Kms long Ludhiana-Malerkotal line having 110 towers, has also been done.
