Oversight Committee's maiden meet in New Delhi tomorrow
Bangalore, May 29 (UNI) The 13-member 'Oversight Committee', formed by the Centre under the chairmanship of Administrative Reforms Commission Chairman Veerappa Moily, will hold its first meeting in New Delhi tomorrow to find an amicable solution to the contentious issue of 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in higher educational institutions.
Talking to UNI here tonight, Mr Moily said the Committee was assigned the task of preparing the road map to end the reservation fiasco, being witnessed all over the country.
Its immediate task was to find ways and means to ensure implementation of 27 per cent reservation in higher educational institutions, without affecting the interests of meritorious students, he said.
Mr Moily said the committee would look into the existing infrastructure facilities and the quantum of facilities to be increased to implement the quota, without affecting the share of candidates in the general category.
About the ongoing anti-reservation agitation, Mr Moily said there were apprehensions among the general category students that they would be subjected to a raw deal and once they were reassured that there would be no scope for downplaying merit, it would be subsided.
To a question, he exuded confidence that the committee would submit its report before its deadline of August 31 and serve the purpose for which it was constituted.
