OBC quota stir: Tension in K R Hospital
Mysore, May 29 (UNI) Tension prevailed in the outpatient department of K R Hospital when striking medicos staged a blockade in front of the department to intensify their agitation against 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in higher educational institutions.
Over 250 agitators, who had hitherto confined themselves to an enclosure in the hospital, stormed into the OPD, pushed those manning the department and attempted to lock the building. Following this, a scuffle started between patients and the striking medicos.
Hospital Superintendent B D Satyanarayana and police rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.
The strike by the medicos continued for the 13th day today and relay hunger strike for the tenth day.
The Youth for Equality, the banner under which the medicos were protesting nationwide, expressed dissatisfaction over lack of response from the local politicians.
Students from Mysore Medical College, JSS Medical College, dental, Ayurvedic and Engineering colleges participated in the demonstration in front of Cheluvambha Hospital.
A Gulbarga report said junior doctors and medicos took out a massive procession in the city to the Deputy Commissioner's office.
The processionists, including engineers, doctors, traders and advocates, insisted the DC to personally accept their memorandum as twice in the past he had taken it through his assistants.
They also demanded the DC to address the gathering on the issue, which he had rejected.
The agitators staged a sit-in dharna in front of the DC office for two hours. Police persuaded the junior doctors and managed to disperse them.
In Gulbarga medical college hospital, the number of outpatients dwindled to below 50. As many senior doctors participated in the procession, there was no one to attend to the patients.
