Nine minor girls kidnapped in Ludhiana in four months: BJP

Chandigarh, May 29 (UNI) Claiming that the Punjab government had failed to contain law and order in the state, the BJP today said at least nine girls were allegedly kidnapped in Ludhiana in the last four months while the police has declined to register some of these cases.

Two such Ludhiana-based poor families, whose minor daughters were allegedly kidnapped, were presented at a press conference held here by the BJP leaders. The aggrieved families stated that the policemen of Vardhman police station in Ludhiana had refused to lodge their respective complaints.

Punjab BJP general secretary Vijay Sampla and the party's Youth Wing national executive member Vineet Joshi said the party cadre here were investigating these cases of kidnapping of the minor girls and then further selling them to influential people.

One of these two girls, Nirma Kumari alias Nimmi, was reportedly kidnapped on February four.

The 13-year-old Nimmi's mother, Sunaina Devi told reporters that when she and her husband went to the Vardhman police station, the police gave a deaf ear to them.

''We even met the DSP of the area and the Ludhiana SSP several times, but till now neither they have registered an FIR nor our daughter has come back,'' she said.

She added that her daughter was kidnapped by an autio-rickshaw driver, one Usman Mian, who was still at large. She alleged that he, along with other three people, had kidnapped her daughter and sold her for Rs 35,000.

''They all are influential people and, thus, the police is not listening to us,'' she added.

In the second case, a 14-year-old Deepika Sharma was allegedly kidnapped on March 14. Her mother Sudesh Sharma, a widow, also told reporters that her daughter was understood to have been sold to some influential criminals.

She also alleged that the policemen at Vardhman police station did not pay any attention to her when she went to lodge a complaint.

The BJP leaders said they would move the Punjab State Human Rights Commission to seek justice for these poor families.
