New employment projects for ex-servicemen in Haryana

Chandigarh, May 29 (UNI) In order to generate more revenue for the welfare of ex-servicemen and their kin, the Haryana Rajya Sainik Board has decided to initiate projects like providing skilled, semi-skilled and technical manpower to the employers on the pattern of security agencies.

The Board will also take up the work of stitching of uniforms for defence personnel, para medical forces and NCC on the lines of Punjab Ex-Servicemen corporation.

These decisions were taken in a meeting of Haryana Amalgamated Fund Committee held here today under the Chairmanship of Haryana Governor A R Kidwai. The meeting was also attended by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Director General Resettlement, Maj Gen Harvant Krishan among others.

It was informed in the meeting that skilled, semi-skilled and technical manpower would be provided on contract basis on the service charges of 12 to 15 per cent amount, as per the norms set by Director General, Resettlement, an official spokesman said.

The work of stitching of uniforms, he said, would be given to the wards of war widows, widow and ex-servicemen of the state who had done one year diploma courses in the Sainik Parivar Bhawan in the state.

The rate of stipends being given to the children of ex-servicemen was also being doubled, the spookesman said.

Ex-servicemen had been provided employment in nine districts of southern Haryana for meter reading and distribution of electricity bills by Uttar and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitaran Nigams, he said.

The Irrigation Department was also in the process of employing 40 to 50 ex-servicemen for preventing theft of canal water in Jhajjar and Rewari districts, he added.

The Haryana Amalgamated Fund Committee requested for providing a budget of Rs 1.30 crore for the current financial year for running Sainik Parivar Bhavan which was acceded to by the Government.

The meeting was conducted by Brig M.S. Beniwal, Secretary and Lt Col N K Siag, Deputy Secretary, Rajya Sainik Board.

They informed that there were at present 2.64 lakh defence personnel, including 1.63 lakh serving defence personnel, from Haryana. The total number of serving, retired defence personnel, war widows and their dependents were over 19 lakh.
