Mizoram govt to reduce land revenue taxes

Aizawl, May 29 (UNI) Following criticism and pressure from the opposition parties, the Mizoram government today decided to reduce the present land revenue taxes.

It was approved in a cabinet meeting held here.

However, there was no information on how the land revenue taxes would be reduced.

Official sources said the government's decision came because many people, who had their lands settled by the government, could not afford to pay the taxes, as a result of which many land settlement certificates had been lying with the department concerned.

With the lowering of taxes, people will now be able to clear their dues and get their certificates issued, which are very important documents if a person wants to go for a loan of any kind in Mizoram, the sources added.

The Cabinet meeting also approved lowering of power tariffs, which had become exceptionally high during the past one year.

Also approved were The Mizoram State Consumer Welfare Fund rules 2006, allowances and benefits of officers of the Mizoram Judicial Service, the creation of Mizoram Information Commission along with the posts necessary to run this Commission, The Mizoram (Societies Registration) Rules 2006 and the extension of the upper limit of age for tribals looking for government jobs to 35 plus five years.
