Master Plan of Delhi to include Khanna Committee recommendations

New Delhi, May 29 (UNI) Recommendations of the Tejinder Khanna Committee will be incorporated in planning the capital's growth roadmap till 2021, Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy said today.

Most of the recommendations of the Committee, which submitted its report to the Minister earlier this month, would be included in the 2021 Master Plan for Delhi, he told a state Congress rally.

Answering criticism over the demolition and sealing drives by municipal authorities against illegal constructions, he said citizens would not have suffered on this account had the previous BJP-led Government at the Centre implemented the new Master Plan of the city.

Arguing that the problem of illegal constructions in Delhi had accumulated over the years, he expressed hope that the Government would be able to find a solution to the issue during the year-long moratorium period on penal action against such constructions.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken said Delhi cannot be transformed into a world class city by targeting its poor.

The Khanna Committee, set by the Centre to suggest solutions to the problem of illegal constructions in residential areas of the capital and commercial activity there, has, among other things, suggested liberal mixed land use policy for 1,500 colonies.

It also suggested creation of a Delhi Urban Regulatory Authority, a new Enforcement Agency under the Lieutenant-Governor and setting up of a Delhi Vision Group comprising professionals from various fields to suggest suitable actions for planned urban growth in the capital.
