Ken Loach's Irish war film wins Cannes Palme d'Or

CANNES, France, May 28 (Reuters) British director Ken Loach's ''The Wind That Shakes The Barley'', a moving drama about the Irish struggle for independence, won the ''Palme d'Or'' at the Cannes film festival today.

The Golden Palm is the biggest prize in cinema outside the Oscar in the United States. Loach's film, set in 1920 and starring Cillian Murphy and Padraic Delaney as brothers fighting a guerrilla war, was one of 20 movies in the main competition.
