Kalam condoles loss of lives in Indonesia

New Delhi, May 29 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam has mourned the loss of lives in Indonesia in Saturday's earthquake and assured the people of any assistance from India that may be required.

In a condolence message to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Dr Kalam said, ''Our sympathies are with the families who had lost their near and dear ones. We pray to the Almighty to give them strength to withstand this difficult period with courage and fortitude.

''India remains ready to provide any assistance that may be required in the aftermath of this natural calamity.'' More than 5,000 people died in the earthquake which rocked Yogyakarta and adjacent areas on May 27.
