Indonesia provinces say quake death toll 4,395

JAKARTA, May 29 (Reuters) The governors of the two Indonesian provinces affected by last weekend's earthquake said today the death toll was 4,395.

However, the Indonesian government's social affairs department maintained the number killed was 5,136.

The 6.3 magnitude quake struck at dawn on Saturday, devastating the Bantul area south of the ancient royal city of Yogyakarta, about 440 km (270 miles) east of the Indonesian capital, Jakarta.
