IDA joins total strike in Ahmedabad tomorrow

Ahmedabad, May 29 (UNI) The anti-reservation agitation of medical students and junior doctors in the state intensified on after the 16th day today with the Indian Dental Association (IDA) joining the Ahmedabad Medical Assocation (AMA) in its callfor a total medical strike in the city tomorrow.

AMA Secretary Dr Mehul Shah told UNI that IDA's local chapter's secretary Gautam Madan has informed him that the dentists from the city would also join the AMA's strike tomorrow and participate in a rally to be taken out in support of the ongoing anti-reservation agitation of the medical students, interns and medical fraternity.

Dr Shah said, the entire medical fraternity will observe a one-day strike tomorrow. Doctors, including those of private practitioners and working in the private hospitals are also likely to join the strike.

The doctors and medical students will take out a rally from Income Tax circle after garlanding the statue of Mahatma Gandhi tomorrow morning at 0930 hours.

Meanwhile, the 96-hour long relay-hunger strike of medicos at the B J Medical college has been extended today for another 24 hours.

The medicos' strike has crippled medical services in general hospitals in the State, causing problems to the patients. However, two junior doctors were attending duty in each shift in Government hospitals to attend to emergencies. The health department, too, was co-ordinating with private hospitals to provide services in emergency cases.
