Haas and Bryant take Senior PGA Championship into playoff

HOUSTON, May 28 (Reuters) Americans Jay Haas and Brad Bryant took the Senior PGA Championship into a sudden-death playoff in Edmond, Oklahoma today.

The pair finished the 72 regulation holes on five-under-par 279, Haas firing a three-under 68 and Bryant closing with a 71 on another hot and blustery day at Oak Tree Golf Club.

Chasing his third consecutive victory on the Champions Tour, Haas holed a 12-foot birdie putt at the last to set the target before Bryant followed suit with a 25-footer on the same hole.

Fellow American Gil Morgan, one ahead of the field overnight, had to settle for third place at three under after battling to a 74 with compatriot Dana Quigley (71) a further stroke back in fourth.

The 59-year-old Morgan, who lives a short walk from the course, had been bidding for his first Champions Tour major since the 1998 Senior Players Championship.
