CBI files application for remand of IT Deputy Director
New Delhi, May 29 (UNI) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today filed an appication in a city court seeking the remand of the Income Tax Deputy Director (Investigations), Satish Kumar, who was booked in a bribery case.
Special Judge Indermit Kaur Kochchar issued a production warrant for tomorrow.
Earlier, Ms Kochchar, on May 27, remanded Kumar to judicial custody till June 9, as the CBI was unaware of the fact that Kumar had surrendered before the court on Saturday.
The CBI, on May 25, laid a trap on the complaint of Ramesh Juneja, MD of a Delhi-based pharmaceutical company and caught the senior I-T official accepting Rs eight lakh, but he managed to give the sleuths the slip.
The CBI conducted raids at his two houses in Noida and and claimed to have unearthed assets worth several crores of rupees.
The assets include several pieces of 'benami' land in Meerut and 15 bank accounts in Delhi and Meerut, said a senior CBI official.
Kumar has also been booked for trying to injure a senior CBI personnel. He had allegedly tried to crash his car into the CBI vehicle when it was chasing him.
CBI has arrested the driver and Kumar's ''middleman'' Amar Singh Kain.
