American Haas wins Senior PGA Championship in playoff
HOUSTON, May 28 (Reuters) American Jay Haas clinched his third consecutive title on the Champions Tour by winning the playoff at the Senior PGA Championship in Edmond, Oklahoma, today.
The 52-year-old edged compatriot Brad Bryant at the third extra hole after the pair had finished level at five-under-par 279.
PGA Tour veteran Haas got up and down from a bunker to save par and sealed the win when Bryant missed a par putt there from five feet.
Haas had holed a 12-foot birdie putt at the last for a closing 68 to set the target on another hot and blustery day at Oak Tree Golf Club.
Bryant, who eagled the par-five 16th, then followed suit with a 25-footer on the same hole to force the playoff with a 71.
Fellow American Gil Morgan, one ahead of the field overnight, had to settle for third place at three under after battling to a 74 with compatriot Dana Quigley (71) a further stroke back in fourth.
The 59-year-old Morgan, who lives a short walk from the course, had been bidding for his first Champions Tour major since the 1998 Senior Players Championship.
