3 goods categories notified for MRP-based levy of excise duty

New Delhi, May 29 (UNI) The government today notified three categories of goods-- components and assemblies for automobiles (any heading), plant growth regulators, and tooth brush-- for MRP-based levy of excise duty, to be effective from June 1.

The level of abatement from the retail sale price (MRP) in respect of parts, components and assemblies of automobiles is 33.5 per cent, plant growth regulators (30 per cent) and toothbrush (28.5 per cent), an official release said.

Section 4A of the Central Excise Act, 1944 provides for levy of Central Excise duty on the basis of declared retail price on goods which are notified by the Central Government.
