1.75 lakh K'taka girl students to pedal to schools from July

Bangalore, May 29 (UNI) The Karnataka Government will distribute cycles to 1.75 lakh girl students by July-end as promised in the State budget for the year, Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said today.

Talking to reporters here, he said the last date for the tender process was May 31. The cycles would be distributed division-wise in Bangalore, Mysore, Belgaum and Gulbarga.

Mr Yediyurappa said the Bhagyalaxmi scheme for providing Rs 10,000 for girl child from below poverty line families was already in force from April.

The State's financial condition was sound, with good collection of commerical taxes, excise, VAT and stamp duty. There was good growth in stamp duty collection, despite prohibition of registration of revenue lands as residential plots, he said.
