YFE appeals youth to send protest postcards to Kalam
Mumbai, May 28 (UNI) The Youth for Equality (YFE) today appealed to the youth to send postcards with protest message to President A P J Abdul Kalam against the government's proposed reservation for OBCs in higher education.
Students from IIT Bombay and Medical colleges took out a protest rally at Azad Maidan this evening against the reservation policy of the government.
At the rally they distributed post cards to students to enable them to sent protest massages to President Kalam.
Addressing the students, social activist Rajiv Dixit said the Congress government was trying to 'divide and rule', a policy that was adopted by the Britishers in 1881. He further said the government did not have any affection for the OBC community, but was only building its vote banks.
''This policy not only harms the students of these institutes but the entire nation and parents who have put in a lifetime's effort trying to secure the future of their children,'' Mr Dixit said.
The YFE has also launched its e-mail id 'www.mumbaiblogspot.com' and has appealed to people to send their support messages.
Film producer Ashok Pandit, who also came in support of students, condemned the brutal attack on them by the police outside Raj Bhavan recently. ''We have a fundamental right to live, expression. Nobody can snatch our fundamental rights,'' he added.
Sharad Shroff, an industrialist said in his speech that the government must create opportunity and there should be reservation for all not only for handful population.
