Vigilance to inquire private tuition by government teachers
Bhubaneswar, May 28 (UNI) Unable to curb the private tuition by the college teachers under the protection of College authorities, the Orissa government has decided to hand over such cases to the state vigilance to probe and report the matter for action.
The Directorate of Higher Education has already imposed a ban on private tuition by the government college teachers and punished several of them after necessary verification and investigation.
What had worried the Department that several college Principals, who had been asked to furnish a report to the authorities on the teachers doing private tuition, had cleverly furnished the report shielding the teachers despite allegations of private tuition leveled against them.
Private tutorials had become a common feature in Orissa and college teachers were allegedly earning huge money by setting up coaching classed under the guise of study centres registered in other name.
The Higher Education Department had sought the help of the state vigilance department to track the study centres and private tuition run by the college teachers in Orissa.
Official sources said so far eight college teachers in the state had been placed under suspension on charges ofconducting private tuition and departmental proceedings had been initiated against two lecturers.
The Department had sought show cause notices from as many as 37 government college teachers on the basis of allegation received against them from various quarters.
To punish the University teachers for undertaking private tuition, the Higher Education department approached the Chancellor and Orissa Governor Rameswar Thakur to initiate action against four teachers of Berhampur University against whom allegations of private tuition reported to the department.
