Tuticorin Port resumes services to US east coast
Tuticorin, May 28 (UNI) After a gap of two years, the Tuticorin Port, the gateway port of South India, which is directly connected to Europe and US East coast resumed container service.
In a release Port Trust Chairman N K Raghupathy said following certain initiatives, the port was again directly connected to the US east coast by a new India US service (IDX)from May 26.
Mr Raghupathy said it was for the first time the Tuticorin port was directly connected to a Mediterranean port, via Barcelona in Spain. The consortium would be opearted by ZIM integrated shipping lines, Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), Emirates Shipping Lines (ESI) and MAC Adrews company.
While ZIM India would operate three of the eight vessels, SCI and ESL would deploy two vessels each and MAC one vessel.
He said the service route will be Colombo- Tuticorin- NavaSheva Mundra- Barcelona- New York-Norfol-Charieston-Barcelona-Colombo.
